Re: New Playstation 3 Wireless Stereo (7.1 Surround Sound) Headset

Sep 7, 2011

here's what the PS3 Official Stereo Wireless Headset can do, to answer a few questions for others as well:

- Can charge while in use, provided yu have a long enough cable so you won't have your head stuck 2 ft from your PS3 while playing, go out and get a 12-16 ft USB cable, but yu can chat while charging it easily.

- No, it doesn't do Blu-Ray Discs....currently. But it might in the future with an update, as the virtual 7.1 is all programming. It does work though with DVD's, files in your PS3 HDD, files on your Media Server (if set up), and even videos from the PS Store.

-Yes, it does work with the PC (PC only, not Mac), it's simply plug & play. The audio level for recording is auto-set & cannot be changed, however this matters not as it doesn't need to be changed, it will pick up your voice perfectly. To change the volume on the headset when plugged to a PC, you have to do it via the PC Sound Properties/Sound Mixer in control panel or bottom right corner in the Taskbar. Also, the virtual 7.1 is not available when using the Headset as a PC Headset, simple left & Right with clear audio recording.

basically, this new Headset does everything, except Blu-Ray Discs.  I picked mine up from Future Shop yesterday morning, been using them ever since.  The sound within BlackOps is incredible, as theres menu sounds I've never heard before, even with my 5.1 cranked up.  My roommate has the Turtle Beach PX-21, and I've tried them out.  The Sony Official Stereo Wireless Headset is by far the superior product, even to the Turtle Beach Wireless for PS3 (awkward fitting and $250, compared to Sony's sexy looking $100 set).  Even when I've used his 5.1 wired headset that he bought for $120, I've never heard sounds I was able to hear with the Sony brand.  There's only 1 slight problem I find with the design, and thats for people that wear glasses.  While the earpads are reallly comfortable, it can be distracting having the arms of your glasses ground into the side of your skull while trying to play a game.  theres a few solutions to this though.  first up, play without glasses.  you could get contacts or play like the blind bugger you are, either way, it'll be a period of adjustment, whether it be scratched cornea's, or adapting to the blur of blindness.  secondly, you could put the arms of your glasses over the top of the earpads, tilting them on your face to the point of falling off unless you lean back (way back), which is ok for slackers like myself.  third, is to deal with it, and hope your skull evolves to fit both glasses for vision, and the earpads for sound.  If you opt for #1, they're a must try when falling asleep, as you can listen to whatever music at whatever level, no disturbing the wife/gf, and best of all, no hearing her snore (they say they don't, but we know better!)

The pair I ordered from Amazon still haven't shipped. I wonder if their supply doesn't quite meet the demand. And I preordered mine in July! Still, I'm a patient dude and really look forward to these!

Consider my two cents thrown!

Re: New Playstation 3 Wireless Stereo (7.1 Surround Sound) Headset

Umm i'm wondering if someone can help here, just picked up the official 7.1 wireless headset today.

I can hear game sound through the headset fine but not voice chat (only tried resistance 3 so far) although I see the players mic transmission flashing and people are able to hear me fine. When I turn stereo headset audio extention to off I can hear the voice chat fine but game sound comes through my speakers.

When I go to audio device settings input and output are both set to wireless stereo headset but output is greyed out and mic level greys out if I change it from anything other than 3. I've got voice chat set to full in R3 and i've tried all the different in game sound settings (Headphone, Auto, Dolby)

LtHead,

Have you used a Bluetooth or other set on your PS3 before?  As somebody told me recently, "you should unpair the other headsets that you no longer use."  One of those may still be set for the mic.  Who knows?

I used the Bluetooth that came with Tom Clancy's EndWar while playing in the Den.  I use Razer Barracudas for my PC and I have the Ear Force DPX21 set for the PS3 when I'm deployed.  But I just picked up the new PS3 Head set recently and it is actually the most comfortable of all the sets.  The sound is better on the Razor, I got the optional leather muffs.

I haven't really had a chance to compare it to the EF set.  But I'm thinking I'll be keeping the PS set.  I guess I'll be selling off my Turtles to some lucky kid on the boat who's going to get them for a bargain.

Ah, yes my friend.  You need to do a bit of tweaking.  It took me a bit to figure out.  You're going to be working with the two sliders on the left side of the headseat.  Have someone with you in a game to keep testing their mic volume and also something preferably with music or noise going on in the background.

1. Make sure the volume slider in the front of the left side of the headset is set to the default middle area, you'll feel it sit in the position, like it will slide into it and fit snug like it's home.  It is in between the sound and voice range.

2. Turn the volume of the headset on the back left hand side of the set up just enough so that the sound of the game is coming in comfortably.

3.  Now have your buddy on their mic keep testing the mic and saying something.  If their voice is too low slide the front left slider down (towards voice) until you can hear them comfortablly and still somewhat hear the background music/noise.

4.  Lastly when the mic volume is comfortable and if you're still having trouble hearing the backround noise or music of the game you are going to want to turn up the volume slider in the back of the left side of the headset once more to a comfortable level and have you're buddy check their mic volume again.  You should be good to go.

Make sense?  I hope so.

P.S. If have mispelled anything I apologize, I am at work and trying to do this quickly.

LOL, yes dude.  Have you been living under a rock?  Just messing with you,  that's half the reason sony released this product.
