If you're using a NetGear router, forget about it.  Its not going to work.  I have spent countless hours trying to get mine squared away....I'm a network engineer. I have tried opening all ports to everything, putting the PS3 in teh DMZ, ...everything I can think of.  The only thing that worked was plugging directly into the modem...but who wants to do that? Defeats the purpose of having a router in the first place.

Just go get a linksys or a dlink. They work OOB (out of box).

Here is what I use..cheap and it works!

I've never had an issue with my Netgear WNDR4300

Would anyone mind giving me a hand with this? I've never had issues playing online with other games, but Borderlands 2 really doesn't like me. I've tried on my own and failed, so if someones around to help out, i'd love the assistance.

If you are running DD-WRT you only need to have UPnP open, no need to worry about ports.

On that note, if your router is capable, I highly suggest you upgrade your router to DD-WRT and unlock all its glorious features.

You can check here if your router is DD-WRT capable: http://www.dd-wrt.ca/site/support/router-database

What will your glorious dd-wrt-enabled router do that my Cisco Linksys E4200 won't do now, with respect to port forwarding?

Hello everyone. I haven't had time to read all of the previous posts, but my issue is that my status states that I'm operating with NAT 2, but when I perform a connection test, psn fails. I also have the problem of not being able to chat/game with certain friends, resulting in crashes when the attempts are made. Does anyone have any advice? I've opened all ports and enabled UPnP.

Re: NAT Type 2 Tutorial

I just bought a Netgear router yesterday and after 6 hours on the phone with my own provider, PS4 experts, and finally Netgear so called "experts", I have  this message:

NAT type = Failed.

I have done all I know to do and am now ready to return this new Netgear today.  The last "expert" from Netgear (always Indian which made it hard to understand) actually told me to return it for one more compatible with PS4 and then he hung up on me. In fact 2 from this "support community" just hung up on me.  I literally don't know what to do.  Help????

Who is your provider?

Did they supply an all in one modem router?
