My experience with Endless Electronics

512 replies 2913 views Edited Mar 8, 2012

Well I paid the $30 for the diagnostic and shipped my now YLOD 60gb system to them the other day. Hoping they can do a reball, since my guess is the solder underneath the GPU cracked, despite doing a thermal paste and fan change before it died. I'll update as they contact me and offer me options. Hopefully this PS3 can be reborn.

What is this X-Flow mod you speak of? When they contact me and (hopefully) say it can be repaired, I was gonna ask if they could give me a new cover.. mine's all scratched

It is a new mod which supposedly cools the PS3 another 20+ degrees, by drilling holes directly above the fan. You can read more about it here:

Oh interesting. Well hopefully they offer that to me. I'd definitely pay for it. Are those holes visible on the bottom? Or is it just see-through?

Uh-oh.

The PS3 is designed to draw air from the front vents, allowing it to weave around the system, cooling the power supply and other discrete components before being sucked into the fan and then blowing it on the heatsink and then exhausting the heated air.

I'm concerned that the holes would lessen the airflow over the discrete components and the power supply, and those could overheat.

that mod is nothing more than to help ventilation TO the bottom side of the motherboard.

It does not change where and how the fan flows air

If you take a garden hose and punch a hole large enough at the middle of the hose, you will get less water flow to the tip of the hose.

Same concept here, punch some holes on the PS3's underside and you'll affect where and how the PS3 intakes cold air and where it will flow through and effectively cool.
