I'm gonna finally do it. Play MGS chronologically.
starting with MGS 3
Skipping portable ops (should I play it?)
(gotta find out how to get metal gear)
(same with MG2)
then ground zeroes
then phantom pain
And if I actually do all that. I'll play the silly cyborg ninja jehnk.
I think that is the correct order for storyline.
I've only beaten MGS and MGS 4.
EDIT: Removed "Games and Platforms" label.

Start with MGS3
You can skip Portable Ops
You can play Metal Gear 1 & 2 via Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence or Metal Gear Solid HD Collection
Then you can play as a cyborg ninja
two problems. first, going back to MGS after playing three would suck. second, there is no release date as of yet for MGSV that i'm aware of (...correct me if i am wrong). Better to play titles in the order they were released in prep for THE PHANTOM PAIN.
I LOVE everything about original MGS. no problem going back in graphic department. I wish to God I still had the remake of first MGS they made on Gamecube, great remake. but I'll be going PS1 original discs all the way on MGS.
2 3 and peace walker i just bought in the HD collection. (other collection with metal gear 1 and 2 has them as downloads, so I didn't buy that version used, and now may have to finagle something. and dont have ps2 or BC ps3)
MGS4 I still have from original release.
and yea no release date on MGS 5, but I play through these games very slowly, so who knows, lol, it might be out by the time I get to it.
I read an article in Game Informer on MGV PP and GZ, and now I find myself unable to let go of this amazingly complex and convoluted tale of a bunch of snakes. tired of reading the summaries, must play games!
Thank y'all for responding BTW.
because i've played them as they released...I want to switch it up. and I never beat MGS3 so i figure it's a great place to start.
I'm a total solid snake snob. thus MGS2 and MGS3 suffered. (cuz im stoopid)
I don't believe portable ops is canon
I've heard different things but I think it might be canon or the MGS4 artbook was wrong all these years.
