Re: Massive Flop (Mass Effect Andromeda)

Still excited for this game, but obviously I've had to temper my expectations the whole time. It will be fun, and maybe not the best game ever, but I'm still really excited because I love the Mass Effect premise. Space. exploration, fun combat, character loadouts. Plus I really loved ME3's co-op and MEA's seems like more of the same.

On that note, I know the animations aren't going to be great, but when have Bioware animations ever been top tier? I've always put them in the same vein as Fallout/Skyrim animations and not in the same club as say...Naughty Dog games. This generally is the case when you have massive open worlds and open-ended stories. Too much to mo-cap EVERYTHING unlike a game with a single scripted story like Uncharted or TLoU

Thanks EA for ruining a great series. I think i am gonna play though the original series instead of this trash. I wish microsoft would kept this IP.....

Since when is a score of 8 out of 10 considered a bad rating? Oh, since we started using "gamer logic". That's when.

From waht I've watched the animations arent' THAT bad...... but Sara Ryder's face is making me cringe. Something about the eyes.... kinda puffy face and those lips looks like a failed botox injection....

Don't give a crap what the score is on metacritic, I'll be buying the game anyway because I want to play it.

Don't really care for critics opinions unless a game is panned across the board which a 75 does not indicate. That's the problem in today's market, people don't even read the reviews, they just look for an aggregate score, that tells you nothing.

I don't plan on buying the game for another couple of weeks though, I'm just finishing up Horizon Zero Dawn so dont want to jump into another big questy game straight away. Plus here in EU we had a deal to spend €50 in March and get €10 in April, so I'll put that towards MEA and they'll probably have patched some of the issues

Until then I think I'll give Tearaway a try or my play unravel which I bought a few weeks ago

I rather have a reviewer tell me if its good or bad then some random sheep off the streets. But hey i bet you brought Horzion Zero Dawn because reviews said it was good Smiley Wink

Sheep follow the herd, thats what you are doing exactly by the reaction you have had to the metacritic score. How is 75 average bad?

I don't go to critics for reviews, I buy games I'm interested in and watch some gameplay vids before I buy. Horizon was worth every cent for me, don't care what anyone else thinks. I didn't buy for them.

Lmao then u didnt watch any  videos truthfully. Because thats one reason why i cancelled my pre-order and the crapy review scores confirmed my cancellation. I wait till under 20$ used or free for EA access since i just got myself another Xbox. And get the game for free. But hey enjoy your ALIEN PORN

What is your beef with this game? Why are you so eager to trash talk a game that you didn't really play the full game?  Are you in some sort of juvenile retention center writing this blurb of yours?  I will be playing it after I get off work tonight. Many fans will play it regardless of what is being said. You talk about sheep but who is the sheep exactly here? Is it you that has only the mentality that only games that get scores of 9 or 10's are only the good games  you should get? You totally forget that there are 8 billion people in the world and not everyone will see the same thing.

Seriously, 8/10 is considered bad, kind of wonder what is up with this generation, it seems only 9/10 is considered good, anything below that is considered a failure. It seems to happen all the time, a game gets rated 8/10 and people are going on about how bad it's doing. Of course I don't buy games based on reviews, I typical don't look at reviews to decide what games I want to get. I may get Mass Effect Andromeda at some point, although not right away, I only played Mass Effect 2 before, so Andromeda seems to be a good place to jump into the series as it's new characters, location, story, etc.

I'm not a fan of metacritic or review scores myself, they are up for interpretation by individuals who feel differently on what it means to them. Some think a 7 is bad, some still think it's good but again review scores are entirely up to the person who is or isn't going to buy a game after all right?  All this back and forth to justify ones stance creates awkward conversations or arguments like this thread that are dictated by those that are either excited or not for a particular title and feel the review scores are of the utmost importance. Does these very review scores somehow dictate ones enjoyment of the game? Aren't we all different in what interests us?

I mean I have a fervent love for the Mega Man Legends cannon (1,2, Misadventures of Tron Bonne.), my all time favorite games of all time (I mean look at my Twitter and avatar, I think that franchise is awesome!) and guess what review scores they sit at... The middling 7's.

I get games I think I'll like, preview vids help me determine this like everyone else, dependency on how a game's review scores does not determine what I purchase. If I need a second opinion though, Personally, I ignore the reviews with scores and look toward reviews with a different scale in how games are judged, criticized, or praised. My favorite game reviewer is ACG, his review system in place is quite different but at the same time fair and relatable : Buy, Rent, Wait for a Sale, Don't Buy. Pretty simple, cut and dry, no stupid numbers involved. Check out his review of Andromeda and decide if his thoughts are enough to determine if you should get the game or not.

Keep in mind, don't let someone dictate what you can and cannot buy, it's your money and your decision after all, get whatever interests you in life. Reviews are simply opinions in helping you make a decision, if that.

I always thought the term 'flop' referred to a product that didn't sell well. Since the game launches today, whether or not it's a 'flop' will take some time to determine. My guess is with the marketing, it will sell at least a few hundred thousand copies this week.

It likely won't reach Horizon's 2.6 million copies from last week, but I predict that it will be far from a 'flop'.
