Re: Little issue with parental controls...

Jan 30, 2014

Well, after spending numerous hours with the console and PSN account, my conclusion is that Sony decided that underaged kids should not be allowed to play online games at all. Or there is some bug in the parental security system.

Basically, i think there is one security system on the account side, allowing/preventing your sub accounts to chat and view media. On the console/console account, there is another security system, allowing BlueRay/DVD/gaming for certain levels or ages. I enabled all for account and disabled security for all on the console. but my kid still could not access the NHL 14 online games.

After giving up the local phone support (I'll never pay 1$ per minute on a support call i think know will last forever), I decided to give the whole concept of sub-accounts up, and falsified an account for my kid, with him registered as 20 year old. Disadvantages are that any used user ID and email account can only be used once, so i'm now into the fourth set of those too. Geee....

Judging from the low number of problems found on google, I assume i was plain stupid to even try using the parental control system. Most people likely just register the kids as adults and just manage the financial security by buying physical games or vouchers.

So; Never ever again a Sony entertainment system, and as few $$$ spent there as possible! Even the Micro$oft system is easy to use in comparison...

Congrats Sony - You really managed to **bleep** me off. Great products, but the crap above really sux bigtime.

Father,

(semi-geet, who barely never fails in getting anything up and running - until PS3/PSN)
