Sigh, OLED are affordable to anyone. You can buy a 42" for 200 on black friday. But, looking as you cannot read you probably wouldn't know.

You're mistaken, OLED TVs aren't even out in the market yet (in a mass market capacity).

Part of me kind of wished Sony went with something more "standard" like IPS LCD panels.

Sure they are old tech, but they are reliable and they aren't half bad looking.

But I can live with OLED.

I believe that OLED is much more energy efficent than any LCD/LED display, and for a system like the Vita you need all the energy savings you can get...

I know Sony was hyping the PSP, as the greatest device to come out since the Walkman. It did hold some promise to to other things than games (movies & music) , but now with the advent of smartphones and cheap memory cards makes this aspect redundant....

Re: Life expectancy of Vita's OLED screen?

Dec 23, 2011

does anyone here know the benefits and downfall of oled screens or just rambling....oleds can be made on a lot of different material meaning mass produce its cheaper the pixel response time is stupid high like .01 ms lcd is 2 to 8 depending on what is displayed oled produce there own light so the contrast is as high as a plasma. the materials in a oled is organic its in the name so it doesn't last as long as lcd but they claim they fix that or in the process sony doesn't fabricate the nice oled screen samsung does..... oled has been put in mp3 players cell phones and other devices for a couple of yrs now i remeber them doing it for the walkman when they dumb the mini disc players. I love my mini disc player lol but atrac sucks. oled displays are cheap to mass produce and have stipud high response time with beatiful color but don't last as long maybe they fix that maybe not but you get about 5-6 yrs before the screen loses its nice color. by then your portable device is replace or broken lol

Long live play!
