Japanese Digital Download Prices.

26 replies 49 views Edited Dec 18, 2011

How much cheaper are the digital download Vita games compared to the physical copies? I know that JPY prices don't exactly translate to USD, but I would like to know what % difference digital download is from physical. I'm trying to determine if I should buy physical like I normally would, or buy 3-4 32GB memory cards and go completely digital.

Wow...I think I might go all digital then. Physical copies are $39.99(or at least that's what stores are listing) and with tax rates where i live at 8.75% each game would be $43.49. I was expecting digital to be $34.99 and no tax, but if up to 20% that's $31.99 per game. At $34.99 I could get 14 games digitally for about $490, $31.99 I can get 14 games at about $448 and then the same thing with physical copies $43.49 each is $609. Even if it's only $5 off each game without tax I could save $161, which could be used for an extra 32GB memory card. I think I've finally decided to go all digital at least for the Vita. I'll stick to physical copies for all my other consoles.

Well normally I wouldn't mind spending extra to buy the physical copies, but since my wife also wants a vita and a ton of games, it will be much cheaper to purchase digital for my account and digital for her account and save a few hundred dollars in the process.

This will depend if they use the same strategy over here of course.

OP: Huggy is right. Sony's Japanese pricing structure is no indicator for their US market plan.

I would still like to go all digital....

Question: Once you have paid for it and downloaded it you can always download it again ( if you delete it for another game) right?

Yes of course, this has always been the way with the PSP & PS3, also the PSVita manual confirms it.
