Is this hard drive compatible?

5 replies 110 views Edited Oct 17, 2012

Hello,

I understand all hard drives that are 2.5"  should be compatible with PS3 but I am looking into this one and one comment has caught my eye.

A person stated that this hard drive is not compatible with PS3 because it features "Advanced Format Drive" and the PS3 "Fat" does not support it. (Only Slims). Should I be concerned about this?

I'm not sure what the differences are, but I have a WD 500 GB Scorpio Blue in my 40GB PS3 and it works just fine.  You should probably just browse the reviews in case others specify slim/fat, but I would assume from that review and the comment that it won't work except in slims.

I have the same drive on both my 60Gb and 80Gb PS3's...... they're working fine.

My cousin who has a 160Gb slim has the same drive as well....... no issues.

Probably; I'd have to check, but most likely.  Other reviews for your first posted link say it works with fat PS3s, FYI.

They switched models. The drive you use and the one I posted look very similar, but are different.
