The PS3 will format internal drives using its own format. Formatting in Windows first is redundant, because the PS3 doesn't use FAT32 internally.

Look i know i am a noob! so what i need help i have an external drive will alot of personal stuff i am trying to get it on my ps3. How can i do this without have to format my external hard drive, and i dont have enternet at my house to use on my ps3 please help

Hello!

Thank you so much for this post, it worked almost perferctly for me! I say almost because I have a 1.5 Tb external harddrive, however Swisknife is only letting me create the fat32 drive up to 400gb, so I am losing a Terabyte of space! Any idea why that would be?

anyone else realize that 15 megabytes per sec is not enough to run a ps3 game it is too much of a bottleneck movies pics and music would work fine though usb2.0 is just not fast enough to stream the game data on demand like that and the ps3 doesnt have a very large cache so there is no way around it

still dont know why they make usb2.0 sata drives the sata interface is limited by the usb2.0 architecture usb 3.0 however if only the ps3 supported it

I had to delete the volume and it deleted the partition like you said to do. then used swiss knife to format it again. now it isn't showing in in the computer section. also i don't know how to just make a small portion fat32 and the rest normal. some instructions please.

Without trying to sound too stupid I have followed this good advice and got my OCZ 60GB to work as an external drive, I have split it into 2 FAT32 partitions and used folders MUSIC, PICTURE and VIDEO, it now recognises the first partition but how does it recognise the second one, when the first one is full ?
