How much memory does an average PS3 game take up??

27 replies 8219 views Edited Apr 23, 2007
Hey I was wondering how much memory a game like Motorstorm would take up on the PS3 memory. Because I was wondering if it would be better to get a 20g or a 60g.....

Help please........

Well they stopped making 20gb models, but stores still may have them.  It depends on what you want:

Do you want Wifi and Card Readers?  If not, then 20gb is for you.  And since you can upgrade the HDD painlessly, space isn't really a factor.  Can buy the 20 gig and put a 500gb drive in it...

But having the card readers and wifi is a god-send, since I have a PSP and have memory sticks.

They don't take up Memory to store game saves, it uses hard drive disk space.

And you usually won't see a game save be bigger then 1mb-2mb.

lol yeah I was gonna say wth is everyone talking about??

if you actually meant how much physical ram a game takes up it probably doesn't matter much anymore as texture streaming is taking over game development.  So when you only need to keep geometry present in your RAM and only enough texture memory to fill a back buffer at any given second, the PS3's 512mb of total memory is more than enough.

I think so far, you can only put in 200 gig. a game like oblivion took more than 4 gigs, virutal fighter about 2.5 gigs. resistrance only takes like 200 megs of disk space. i bought a 160 gig for $100 from newegg. WIFI is worth it the extra $100, and 60 may be enough for you, if its not than you can always upgrade and turn your 60 into an external HDD.
-20 GB PS3
-160 gig HDD

You guys are too tech savy for your own damn good. lol. I assumed since his criteria was the 20gb or 60gb he was refering to disk space. And since previous generations game saves were on "memory" cards he carried that termonology over to this generation to refer to disk space on the HDD. I was shocked to see most of my game saves be less than 500kb with a couple around 1mb, and then Splinter Cell had to be over 7mb! lol.
