Re: How could the PS4 touch pad be used? *Your ideas*

I agree about it being tooo small for being a viable game input. I see menu stuff as a solid addition, but did it deserve to be there just for menus? I am unsure.

I hope it's not just used for menus as that would be a pointless addition to the controller. I hope that aside from menus, it's used for minimaps, or some ingame tools that usually one would not like to cover the screen.

It's a touchPAD, not a touchSCREEN.  It has no display capability at all.

I never said it had to be displayed. Just used for such tools. Move around minimap, and other ingame tools that often requires covering up the screen to use.

Your minimap idea is a good idea. While playing FPS, you can get some clutter/info from the hud on screen onto the screen for the controller. I like it.

I think it would be used like a mouse. Could be helpful for aiming and strategy games.

A lot of others in this thread have stated, what I was thinking myself.

I personally if I had to pick any option, it'll probably be used for a multi-use navigation system. Probably giving the player the ability to move, click, select applications, etc at ease.

I know it's unlikely, but maybe it was designed for game developers. Instead of just giving them a set of buttons, devs can now make their own. For example they could make four buttons (one on each corner) or make different moves mean different things. Left to right/Right to left: move character to dodge. Maybe make the player draw a certain symbol, like in Jet Set Radio, but this time you can draw it and not have to circle the analog stick. Things like that. I mean, I don't know the real size of it, but it's an idea.

Other than that, I see it as being used for apps. In web browsing it could be used like a mouse, just how the PS3 keyboard works. Zoom in/out. Two-finger touch for "Right Click" (that's how it's set up on my VAIO since there are no L/R mouse buttons).

I like the idea of having that on the controller because it opens up many possibilities, instead of just having a fixed set of options. Smiley Happy
