How I'd like to see Sony handle backwards compatability.

120 replies 438 views Edited May 29, 2013

Now I know that the PS4 will not be backwards compatable- so to speak. I've heard that at some point in the future, the old PS1 and PS2 games will be available through Sonys version of the cloud. What I would like to see for those of us that still have the old systems and games, is a way to download/play our OLD games through the cloud system without having to pay for them again- a type of "you already own the game, enter your UPC code from the case and you get it free for your PS4" type deal. If there are old games that you never got to play, but now want to, then I could see paying for them since you don't already have them.  I'm not saying something like this isn't already in the works (as details are sketchy at this point), but it's an idea. Any thoughts?

How does having a "UPC code" prove you own a game in any way?... it proves ony one thing, you have a UPC code.

Hey look, a UPC from COD 4... I must own it, no... I got from cdcovers.cc

Like I said, it was just a thought. They can use the barcode numbers off the game case for all I care. I'm merely suggesting that there has to be some identifying factor in or on a game case, or the game disk itself, that could show that you have purchased a game that could be available for download without having to purchase another copy. Is it a foolproof idea? Not in the least, but is IS an idea, which is all I presented it as. But like I also said, something like this may already be in the works, which would make my suggestion moot anyway.

Based on how they handled the PspGo/Vita upgrades in japan, there would be a fee. It wasn't full price, but there was a fee. I just don't see them giving away game, even if you do own it.

*Sigh* I guess this is what happens when someone has a possible idea- the war over "Why" begins anew. You know what? Just forget it. I never asked. You guys are right here on Xbox Foru- I mean Playstation Forums...

Can a moderator please delete this thread? Since I obviously have the audacity to bring up such a thing as an idea, when clearly I have no idea what I'm talking about compared to the experts on what we should and shouldn't be playing or buying, I see no reason for this thread to continue...
