I just bought a new HDTV and I have been having issues with the audio in the HDMI settings. The 1080p graphics are gorgeous and I don't want to give that up, but the audio makes a crackling noise during loud portions of the game. I have reset the settings and unchecked the Dolby Digital 5.1 settings like most people suggest for that issue. Even when it is on the bare minimum settings (Linear PCM 2 Ch. 44.1 & 48) for the HDMI audio it still makes the noise. I've read that I can use the HDMI cable for the graphics and RCA (red, white for audio that came with the PS3) cable for the sound. I switched the settings to the Audio Input COnnector/SCART/AV Multi setting after connecting the RCA cables to the tv but the sound is muted. Any help would be appreciated. For reference, the tv I have is the Toshiba 24L4200u. The input/output specs are:
HDMI® with CEC: 2
USB Media: 1
High Definition PC Input: 1
3.5mm PC Audio Input: 1
Digital Audio Output: 1
ColorStream® Component Video: 1
Composite: 1
Also, another option I considered if this doesn't work was buying speakers (Cyber Acoustics CA-3602) and a gaming console adapter but I don't want to do that if I can't get the RCA cables to transfer the sound to the tv...

It is only when playing games. Very rarely has it happened during Netflix (via PS3), but it's nowhere near as bad as when it is gaming. Most specifically, I've been playing Resident Evil 6 and during the loud explosion/heavy gunfire portions of the game it is really bad to the point where it sometimes does a constant screech so bad I have to mute the tv.

Sure, I can do that. I'll record now and post it as soon as I can upload it.
