Help for HDD upgrade from 160gb to 500 gb

I've got a 160 gb fat ps3, and somehow its hdd is full;  it says something like: ''less than 500mb left''. Soo, I (MAY) upgrade it to a 500 gb HDD. Since I don't want to delete my data, I have to buy an external hdd to save my stuff. I wondered if any of you could tell me if these to devices will work for completing my ps3 upgrade:

as internal:

as external:

http://www.amazon.com/BUFFALO-MiniStation-Stealth-Portable-Drive/dp/B0046RE21G/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UT...

all together this is a bit expensive, so I don't know if I'm going to do this, but I still want to ask!

- thanks!

Both drives are fine

But for the external drive you'll need to have it formatted to FAT32 otherwise the PS3 will never recognize it.

Furiously Chaosing

I get you so horked up
