Have "Game Of The Year" 'Programs' been 'abolished'?

Will 'programs', like "Batman: Arkham Knight", ever be released as "Game Of The Year" 'programs'? Where they have included all of the 'DLC', that has been created for the 'program'?

I'm sure they will, might not be names BOTY edition. It might be the Best of Batman, or Ultimate edition or something, but they do come out.

@phantomhero5043 I'm guessing maybe the OP might view "Game Of The Year" as a program that encompasses game titles that release this version of game. I would imagine similar to the "Greatest Hit" (Sony), or "Platinum Hits" (Microsoft) program.

I could be mistaken though. Woman WinkWoman Happy

A lot of different outlets in the gaming industry give out gaming awards including Game of the Year awards. Many just post list of the years top games. However Sony's Greatest Hits program was associated with a sale price point of $19.99 and that special red case to make it stand out on shelves.

While it's gone today, the sales have not gone away most are much better than in the past on PS3. Sony and almost all Publishers of games have become much more aggressive in sales and price points. Many times the retail market leads the way in reduced pricing on game. Amazon and Bestbuy have started discounts on new games. Both give 20% off new releases. However BestBuy will also give 20% off older games at any price point. BlackFriday sales were excluded last year.

To a point.

I've still seen it around for the Wii U and 3ds in part. But a lot of the games aren't for the game of the year so to speak, some are and some are for ones that they're trying to sell.

And 20% a game is nothing by comparison to the $19.99 price point of GOTY games. And for any better sales, it's generally for digital ones. Hard copies rarely go on sale. Unless it's around the holidays.

It's part of the reason why I generally stick to used games. I get new when I can, but it's not as often as I usually could.

Goty editions, not programs. This is a game with all it's DLC that's re released at retail. Not every game gets a GOTY edition, so it's best to either wait for one that may ( or may not) come or simply buy the game and the DLC for it as it becomes available.

I believe they now use Complete Edition or Legendary Edition. Sometimes a Definitive Edition will have all DLC and graphics upgrades. Sony wants every game in a blue case now, they want the sea of blue bigger then the green side. I think this all started with the PS4 titles. Game of the Year Edition makes it sound like only one game each year could do a Complete Edition. Why llimit it to one.

Game developers will release a bundled edition including all DLC when the original game is no longer selling... If they feel like it. It's not going to happen with every game. And it has nothing to do with GOTY. If a game won a GOTY award they have the advantage of calling it that. But just because a game is not a GOTY doesn't mean they can't release a bundled edition. They just won't call it GOTY. People seem to misunderstand what that means.
