Has system updates damaged anyone else's system?

4 replies 137 views Edited Nov 7, 2012

I sent my 60GB PS3 in four months ago after a system update damaged my system. I had to pay $129 to get it “fixed”.  After using my system for a total of nine hours after I got it back, it did the same thing after another system update. Both times, when rebooting after the system update, it turned on for less than a second, beeped three times then the red light started flashing. It won’t turn on long enough to eject the disk or back up my data. When I called them about it, they were really rude to me and charged me $129 again to fix the same issue because it was 29 days out of warrantee. Their service department sucks! They use cheap parts and only give a 90 day warrantee on their “repairs”, knowing that their parts aren’t going to last much longer than that. I lost all trust in Sony because of their horrible customer service and their incompetent repair technicians. That company is dead to me. I will never buy anything with the Sony name on it as long as I live.

I have a 60gb PS3 and a 160gb PS3 both have received many firmware updates over the years, including the latest 4.31 update with no problems. Here are some links to other threads filled with people that say the firmware updates did damage their PS3s.
