To start off, don't type in all caps, that's just going to repel people from posting replies. You can copy your game saves onto a USB stick through the Save Data Utility option and copy all your music, pictures and videos to an external hard drive or USB stick. When you get the new PS3 just copy your old files onto the new one.

If your system is already dead.....your  Sheet out of luck my freind.

There is no way to transfer any saved game data unless your old system still works and can get to the xmb and options. If you can still get it to turn on and work and at least get to the data storage and etc..you can somehow link the old with the new???Someone help verify that for me ???  and download the info from hard drive to hard drive.  Or use a USB and transfer stuff(unless its copyright protected) .

Sorry but that will not work. All of your data is married to the console that created it, and will not work on any other console. Game saves that are not copy protected can be saved onto another console, but if they have trophies enabled the new console will not allow you to earn anymore. Your best bet is to try and get your PS3 repaired through a 3rd party repair service. I used gophermods.com myself and are very satisfied with their work.

I have a dead PS3. I'm planning on buying a new 120GB unit but my biggest concern is keeping my COD MW2 rank and stuff. If I can manage to get it to stay on for a few minutes somehow, can it back that stuff up to a jump drive?

There are 2 ways

1.Take out the hard disk drive located in the back, borrow a friends ps3 and copy files to and external drive Ex.Usb flash drive.

2.If it doesn't freeze until some time get a usb and copy all your files,This can be done using Backup data in the Settings Area.

If you are worried about losing your online stats, don't worry about it.  They are all stored on the servers, not on your PS3.  As long as you log into the same PSN account on a different PS3 you will still have your stats.

ray is absolutely right I have a 500gb i installed in mine and I was forced to reformat it in a refurb sony sent me vis a vis YLOD I had some of my older saves on a stick and all that I transferred over disabled trophies and the only way I got them on the stick was using the systems backup utility if you take your drive out and put it in anything besides the same ps3 it'll force a reformat or it will show it as unrecognizable due to encryption.

Im not a big hacker but i tried on a Windows PC, Linux PC, and a Mac no love maybe Geohotz will get bent about this and crack it too lol but until then the system's backup utility is the only way to transfer that data

on a side note to the mw2 rank question that is stored online on IW's or PSNs (idk which) servers so your online profile will remain intact
