HELP!!! PS3 YLOD Hard Drive Problem (not the typical error you think it is)

2 replies 127 views Edited May 8, 2012

So I had an 80gb PS3 for five years, and it finally YLOD'd on me about 2 weeks ago. Of course, not knowing much, I decided to just buy a new one and use a hard drive enclosure to get my data back. Once I found out this doesn't work, I discovered I would need to get the old PS3 working so I could get the data off my hard drive and onto my new PS3.

So, long story short, I fixed my old PS3 myself. meaning, I used a heatgun to reflow the solder in the chips. And voila! No more YLOD. But now, the PS3 is asking me to format my hard drive. It's the same PS3, with all the same parts from when I bought it. So why does it need to format the hard drive? It's even the PS3's ORIGINAL hard drive.

Does anyone know why it's doing this or how to fix it? Please help! I'm desperate!

Did it ask you to reformat the hard drive? If so, how did you get around that?
