Does anyone know when the updates usually happen?

The store usually updates between 6pm and 8pm eastern, but it can happen later, there is no exact time.

Do you know if the free games (FF5 and the simpsons) will only be free this week? Been trying to get them since they came out, but always have a error message. Hope I won't lose those free games!

The blog post doesn't mention that these two are one, or even two weeks, only, unlike say Far Cry 2.  Your best bet is to always check the PS+ last chance offers section.
