¤ I used a USB powered external HDD enclosure that you can swap out any laptop 2.5" SATA into. I just recently upgraded to a 1TB HDD
What external hd should i use to back up my data? Imgoing to put in a new internal one. I bought a good external hard drive but it wont connect. (Ive gone through every single way it could be messed up) the problem is that its a portable drive and the PS3 isnt giving it enough power to run the backup. So now im in an 80 dollar hole.
So i need an external hard drive that plugs into an outlet and that is at least 500 GB. Does anyone know what are some good ones? Because everywhere they say "any external hd will work"
Not the case i guess.
ANY hdd WILL WORK.
It just needs to be formatted in FAT32 otherwise the PS3 will not recognize it
Today I finished upgrade from 160 to 500 GB and with back up utility everything transfer to my new 500 GB hard drive and its successful I am very happy and no stressful. Thank God ! Now it works with USB Flash Drive "PNY" 64GB (P-FD64GCOMH-GE) AT BEST BUY I bought only $27 on Black Friday. Now its on sale $40. The regular price is $90 but it worth it and its works perfectly. No need format anything its automatic. Anyway I suggest to buy 64 GB because I notice that it will download 37 GB into my PNY. Also I had about 100 GB used space on my PS3. I delete some games like demo, Disc game(you can install it again with your Disc), Music and Video (you can save into USB Flash Drive then delete it PS3 system. Trying to cut down to 67 GB on my PS3. I am surprise it fit to 37 GB flash drive and I think PS3 Back Up Utility use Compression smaller size into Flash drive and I get all of them 67 GB into 37 GB on flash drive... I am so glad I dont lose anything. If you see some game has larger like 2 or more GB space and I suggest to delete it but you can get this demo game back through in your Account. You can check it out before (After you done upgrade) Go to Playstation Network XMB then Click Sign-in then click Account Management > Transaction Management > Download List. You will see many old download list and you can get it back, smile ! Anyway If you want to watch how to do and I suggest watch 3 parts of YouTube Video . Part One for Back Up Utility http://youtu.be/obrY21Qym5o . Part Two For Installing new Hard Drive Enclosed http://youtu.be/eZrqUBZaFfQ . Part 3 for Back Up Restore install http://youtu.be/r413YE4cca4 . This is not my Video but I watch it and I research many wesbites compare and match. You can look up Playstation website http://support.us.playstation.com/app/answers/deta
P.S. After you install Hard drive then make sure you need Reinstall PlayStation 3 System Software download PC to Flash drive or CD. Watch it on 3rd YouTube Video. Click here at Playstation Software and set up
Tips To Freeing Up Memory On Your PS3
this is a common issue with usb powered HDD's as the ps3 will not put out the full 500ma of power like a PC will and some ps3's vary from one to another..i have seen them at 500ma rarely but have seen them as low as 300ma....this is usually due to bad capacitors in the power supply..not really sure if this is a issue with the slims and super slims though..
I saw website about Digistor External Hard Drive, Pre-formatted for compatibility with PlayStation 3 gaming consoles.
Anyone already try that one ? Let me know.
