External HDD help

6 replies 60 views Edited Nov 24, 2012

I have purchased an external hdd, but for some reason it won't show up. It says no software to install, ready for use with windows, andeasliy reformatted for mac, plug and play operation, and drag and drop use.

The brand is Toshiba 750GB. Is there something I have to dl for the ps3 to read it? Please help.

The ps3 can only read external HDD's that are formatted in FAT32.

Also, if the HDD is partitioned, the FAT32 partition is REQUIRED to be the "first" partition.

Hope this helps. :smileyhappy:

Never used a mac before so can't help if that's what you have but...

For PC's:

Hook it up to your PC.

Go into "My Computer".

Right click on the icon for your Ext. HDD.

Select "Format" from the menu.

Follow all instructions given, choosing the "FAT32" option when asked.

WARNING: ALL DATA CURRENTLY ON THE HDD WILL BE ERASED AND UN-RECOVERABLE!! So move anything you want to keep to another location before formatting.

Note, windows may not format the entire external drive and only about 32Gb of it.....

there is a lightweight program called Swissknife, and there the HP USB Format tool

Logic, who would've thought eh? Oh wait.... No one thinks anymore.
