I purchased the game Sound Shapes on Saturday morning. After installing, it said I needed to download and install the latest update for the game (1.03). It goes to the download screen, remains at 0% for a while, and then it begins telling me the remaining time is something like 400 minutes... then 450, then 500, then 6, usually up to around 1200. After a while (five minutes maybe) it gives me the following: An error occurred during the download operation (80710723).
I have looked for solutions online and haven't had much help. Most of the responses seemed to be dated two years ago or more, for one thing, and some of them were a bit tech-savvy for my newb skills. I tried using an ethernet cable instead of wireless, I've tried power cycling my router and modem, resetting the ps3, I've tried disabling the Media Server connection. I certainly don't want to reset my PS3 to default as I understand I would lose all of my saved game data (if it comes to that I will just request a refund for the game, I guess).
Note: Everything else works fine. My two PCs, iPad, iPhone, and even other services on the PS3 (Netflix, Hulu, etc) have no problem connecting to wifi. When I attempted to play a game demo of a different game, though, it also required a game update and the exact same thing happened there, so it's not just Sound Shapes.
Thanks to anyone who takes a look at this, like I said I'm not terribly tech-savvy so I greatly appreciate any help at all!

I was getting this also and also it would not download netflix update or the PS store update at all. All of this suddenly after the last "maintence" that Sony did.
I have time warner internet and I changed my DNS servers that my PS3 used from the ISP standard provided to the google ones.. and it then downloaded and worked just fine.
8.8.8.8.
8.8.4.4
Give it a try

I too have the exact same problem. I can download new games, watch Netflix, etc. I cannot download the update to PSN or the update to Hulu Plus. I deleted PSN store, and redownloaded it. That worked. So it is a problem SPECIFICALLY impacting updates, and nothing else. I have tried turning of media servers, changing DNS to 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4, applied DMZ. I'm running out of options...

Yeah, I also tried changing the DNS to 8888/8844 with no luck. I sent an email to tech support yesterday, so hopefully within the next day or so I'll have some kind of fix that I can share.

Having the the same Error Message when I try to log on Playstation Network. I have even changed the console. It worked fine for a couple of days, but now the error is back. I have also tried to manually put in DNS without any change. I have another PS3 in the house (older model) which works fine. It even runs on the firmware.......getting rather frusterating.

i have timewarner also and i also tried those dns #'s and also opendns #'s and timewarner dns #'s and it doesn't work. i just hope a patch dont come out for a game i play every night.
p.s. online gaming works the xmb video chat works, netflix works downloading demo's work. the only thing i noticed having issues is the vudu, game patches, and game trailers. i haven't tried anything else. also this problem just started after their psn maintence which lasted more than 12 hrs.

Woohoo! Finally, I disabled the UPnP on my ROUTER's settings AND on my PS3 settings. That worked. Took 20 seconds to download Hulu update. Hope that helps someone else.
