My wife has dropped my Vita but it was in the Trigger Grip case so I got lucky. It might just be some paint coming off the silver part. I always thought it was a metal strip, but it makes sense if its plastic for a lighter feel.

I have also dropped mine and now have a noticable dent/scratch on the silver  part of my vita right by the power button.

Droped mine few times, once on the street, i nearly freaked out. After checking it out not a scratch or chip or dent anywhere and everythig works just fine.

I do not beleive I have dropped it much or any good stories about drops, but I have recently thrown my tv remote onto my bed and forgot  my vita was there and it landed right on the screen. I standed there for a few seconds thinking of the worst, so when I go over, nothing. I literally said **bleep** this thing is a strong mutha **bleep**a.

I never dropped mine. If at anytime I feel there is a chance I might, I use the wriststrap.

I was always over protective of my PSP when I got it at launch. Then Sony came out with 3 more models of the PSP of which I upgraded to the 3000 and Go models. So with my Vita I'm not being over protective. No case, no wrist strap, just slide it in my pocket and go about my day. I've dropped it once, got a dent, and I've put it in my pocket with my keys, so there are some scratches on the rear touch pad. But I don't care, when Vita Slim comes out I'll just upgrade.
