Upgrading to the Slim? Well...whatever. Who knows if they overheat, they've only been on shelves for a week, and even then not everyone has access to them. Not many in the wild yet.

Although, usually when you shrink the core sizes from 65nm to 45nm, and the unit now uses 33% less power, you'd think it was generating less heat, and failing less often since it runs cooler. Remember, heat is a byproduct of electricity usage (efficiency). I guarantee the older PS3s run hotter, at least at the board/chip level.

I have one and they don't overheat. They will run very warm along the bottom but they are no different to the PS2 Slim and my PS2 Slim is going on 4+ years with no issues. Buy an extended warranty from the store or from Sony if you feel it's going to break.

i have used it extensively since launch, and so far its great, no overheating problems at all, the temperature once it reaches its top point, it stays stable and the same, regardless of how many hours you use it, so far the longest i have used it its 9 hours straigth between playing, movie and downloading, not a single hint of a problem

AMAZING

I wouldnt think so, you would like to think that Sony has looked at past mistakes when designing it. I know that the PS3 Slim is more efficient using less power and producing less heat which makes it less likely to overheat. The PS3 Slim is also bigger than the PS2 Slim which means that the air vents on the side will let the heat out faster than the PS2 Slim could. I would still buy insurance on it though because it can still suffer from the usual failures.

Gettin "really hot" doesn't necessarily mean it's overheating.  If you are feeling hot air coming out of your system, then obviously the cooling system is doing it's job.

Yeah why do so many people think something is wrong just because it gets a little warm on the outside. Of course in such a tight space you are going to feel the heat more than your big concrete block system.

I think the PS3 getting hot is something to be worried about, you never see one overheating without it getting hot . Electronics do get hot, but not all electronics have known issues of overheating and failing on a fairly large scale.
