The negative stuff that goes on with console launches, occurs due to the individual stores not being organized enough. This is why you see those crazy Black Firday videos of people getting hurt, fighting and causing all sorts of chaos. Where as the sister stores in a neighboring city, is completely quiet, structured, rules set in place, a few security guards present, a certain amount of people only allowed in the store at a time....
My local stores? Every console was pre-ordered and they would ONLY get that specific allocation sent to the company to send to them, after a certain cut-off date was met.
Thats how I got my PS2 and PS3....
Sony, and any other company that has a highly anticipated product, is GUARANTEED to not have enough to fill the demand.... that has to do with the manufacturing process and how much lead time they actually get on production once the product is finalized.
Yes, now that pre-orders are a "thing" to do these days (except I don't care for pre-ordering games because there's always enough.... millions of copies of discs can be pressed in just a matter of a few months),
Im sure Sony will have a pre-order system put into place.
