This article primarily discusses the 720, but will Sony step up and give the devs what they want? I sure hope so...
But when you think about it, Playstation has always been doubled up in the Ram department:
PS1 had 2MB, N64 had 4MB. PS2 had 32MB, XBox1 had 64MB. Now the PS3 has 512MB of Ram total, but it's split between the CPU and GPU, so that takes away somethings that developers can do and it's the main reason Skyrim had issues on PS3.
Here's hoping they break that trend with the PS4.
They sort of skimped on RAM on the PS Vita (512 MB RAM, 128 MB VRAM) which isn't a good sign. Many smart phones have more RAM than that. That seems rather short sighted for a brand that likes it's consoles to last at least ten years.
Yea, but smartphones are now programmed to multi-task as they are running so many background processes.... so thats a reason why they have such large amount of RAM.
In actuality, when a smartphone is only running ONE application..... they barely use up any more than a few MB's at any given time.
Theres a few iphone/Jb'd Iphone and other apps on different smartphones for "power users" who want to see what their device is doing.
Ever heard of Infinity Blade? That game almost literally shuts down all the background processes for the game to run. And to multi-task the game with other apps is very laggy
In any case.... the Vita has the largest amount of RAM out of all the handhelds currently on the market. Which is why the Vita can deliver the graphics its can.
I actually like the Vita over the 3DS.... I own both.
