Well my 40GB PS3 has a motherboard problem and it won't play disks anymore. Other than that it's perfectly fine, but I am going to need a new PS3. The nearest gamestop is an hour drive away, and I was wondering if they would buy a PS3 from me if I told them it was broken? If so, how much would they give me for it?

As long as it starts up fine, without any real problems or obvious glitches, i'm pretty sure they'd take it back for i think around 100$ I've heared they don't even plug them in to check half the time. Might just be the guys here though lol. I wouldn't suggest telling them it's broken >.>

It is best to call ahead and ask. Gamestop was taking in broken systems for credit at one time, but I am not sure if they still do. Gamestop does generally check to see if your system works before accepting them, so you shouldn't waste time making a trip there thinking they won't...

Alright, lol, hopefully they don't try to play a disk in it. If they do, does anyone know of a place where they would buy a broken PS3?

you wont get jack for it.
my cousin asked me to see if i can sell his similarly disabled PS3, and the manager told me that since the PS3 slims are out, they are no longer even giving credit. and that if it was working, they would only offer about $80.
gamestop is not something i would take hope in recurring some income.
not even a private party would buy a borked PS3 for no more than $50

If it starts up then i dont think its a motherboard problem, if its not reading disks you could replace the blu ray laser yourself for about $50 or find someone to fix it for you.

ok just to clarify (as a manager at my gamestop) we DO take in broken systems. you will NOT get $100 for it. you CAN get cash for a broken system. if you want the exact value just call them. they can tell you over the phone.

It would be better to check with them.
