I know that they're supposed to check and make sure the console works, but I was wondering if any of you have had success sneaking a broken one by them? I'm not going to play dumb with Sony and pay $150 to repair a 16 month old product, but I want to see if I can get something out of it.
On another note, does anyone know if it is possible to store my PS3 game save data on my computer (by transferring with a flash drive)?
I believe that they take broken systems, but offer far less the a working system. They refurbish their own systems. There was video going a while back of the place in, Juarez(?).
The HD will not work in a PC, you data is gone unless you get that system repaired.

I don't think that gamestop will take your broken system, but they might since they fix them and sell refurbished system; but they probably won't really give you that much for it.
As for saving your data, you can back-up your data in an external hdd or the flash drive.
