Controller Will Not Charge At All? Need Help

20 replies 46137 views Edited Mar 26, 2008
Last night after updating my system to version 2.20 i noticed that one of my ps3 controllers no longer would charge when being plugged into the ps3 system.  at first i thought it might be the usb cord but my other controller began to charge just fine.  does anyone have a solution because i now have a dead ps3 controller due to the fact that it wont charge.  and its relatively new because i bought it only a month ago. any suggestions ?

Do you have the receipt for it?

edit: and the update won't "kill" a controller

Try charging it via a USB port on your computer. If it works, then it may just be the USB port on your PS3.

I can't see that a Update can do this.I suggest that you try it on your computer,If you have one.Maybe the USB port on the PS3 died, who knows.

Well, I just did what a few people suggested and hit the reset button on the back of the controller and I am charging once again. Thanks for the help!

Re: Controller Will Not Charge At All? Need Help

I contacted Techsupport with the same issue and after the reset and try again to recharge, I was instructed that since they are out of warranty (launch PS3) that I am out of luck.

Sure they are still able to be used if I have them connected to the PS3 with the USB cord but it requires me to be a bit closer to the tv then I would prefer to be.

Looks like $100 in controllers down the drain. Shoot I am willing to pay a small fee to get them to replace the batteries in the controller (like apple does for the iPods) but they don't offer that sort of service.

Well lesson learned. Next time I will have to wait until they have worked the bugs out before I by another sony product.
