Cannot sign in with another user's id

I have seen many posts about this but whatever suggestion was made doesn't help me.  We got our PS3 used and I'm trying to sign into the network and it's coming up with the message "Cannot sign in with another user's id" or whatever.  I already created a user id then deleted it and tried to sign into the network and it still gives me the same message.  I've also tried reseting it to factory settings.

You created a new user all the way to the left on the XMB and are still getting this after restoring to factory settings?

Yeah and I'm pretty sure I did factory settings.  It said default settings.  Is that the same thing?

Shoud I delete the users first the redo the restore?

Default settings and factory settings are not the same. Restore to factory. That'll delete any existing users. Then sign in with your existing PSN Id.

Restroing factory setting is different from the default settings.  Factory settings should wipe it completely and you can start from scratch. Then create your new user ID.  I think that will do it... if I'm wrong someone else please chime in.
