Perhaps beating is the wrong term, but my parents tanned my hide when I stepped out of line. Didn't take long for me to learn to behave.
What's the old saying? "A boy's ears are on his back, he hears better when beaten."
I don't agree with this saying, but your response reminded me of it. When it comes to punishments i find in general it's safer in the long run to just live through them than risk getting popped for breaking the implied rules of your punishment. Thinking that things couldn't possibly get worse proves that it can in fact get worse. For eventually people run out of the 'normal' punishments they learned while growing up. Then they start doing research, or observe how other people handle their children especially if it's successful for them.

However when my kids do something I put it on the dining room table. Then I say "If you touch it you won't sit for a week." Maybe your mother should start beating you and you'll learn to listen.
wow, what age are you from....

Sometimes punishment by force is the way. It saves trouble in the long run. But its not the only punishment. Wait, i dont see why im posting this.

If your mother was really evil, she would delete your gamesaves. Maybe disable your PSN account? So are you going to tell us what you did?
