Can you re-dl + games to new HDD?

Not to mention everything else? or is there some sort of transfer method?

Yes you can, to both question. The best thing to do is deactivate your account from the previous HDD so that all content activated on it is... well... deactivated! Content from the PS Store is currently limited to 2 consoles, so having your account active on the old HDD takes one of those slots.

As for transferring, you would need an external USB Hard Drive. You'd then be able to go into your Playstations settings and backup everything to the external drive, then transfer it to the new HDD.

Just a tip if you're going to do this:

 

Download the latest PlayStatoin 3 update from the official Sony website. When I did it (and I think almost everyone else) I had to update my new HDD to the current version. Just make sure you have a USB flash drive with the update in it. If you run into a screen that asks you to press both SELECT and START at the same time, place the USB flash drive in, and it should work.

 

Just a heads up, because I spent a bit of time trying to resolve this problem.
