Re: Can you play ps2 games on ps3?

It's really a shame. I made a large collection of PS2 games, hoping to keep on playinig it on my PS3 (I got it on Black Friday), and I´m still awaiting for Sony to redeem itself... Why 360 users, can play all their Xbox games, and we are literally left in the dark, clinging on a ray hope that vanishes... What a pity. I still hope that someday, Sony will learn from their competitor...

Freakin Xbox fanboys.......

If you had a large collection fo PS2 games and JUST bought a PS3, then you would've known at least by now that there's no backwards compatibility. You wouldnt' even of had to research that, it is almost public knowledge to any gamer.

And therefore you would keep your PS2 and just use that to play the PS2 games, since you can't get much for a PS2 anyways.

The X360 can only play 51% of original Xbox games, the rest won't play at all...

What do you mean by Blu-ray taking the feature away?

Re: Can you play ps2 games on ps3?

It is part of it. The blu ray mainly prevents it from playing music and a game simultaniously. But the PS3, i  have it, has some new features and acessibility so from the roumers i have heard, Note: from what i have heard is in this informatin, i could be wrong and misslead by public and computer nerd opinion, that is what causes some of the problems. The latest xbox, i think its the slim, plays blu ray, but now lacks simultanious music and gameplay and lower memory storage. Plus, the new PS3 has more memory storage so suspect this is part of the problem. And its funny that xbox, 4-5 years later, has finnaly caught up.

No, the PS2 backwards compatibility is not a function of being able to play music and a game simultaneously. I think you may be getting confused with Audio CDs, where music is stored as tracks and is separate from the data sections of a CD. You can easily get around this by storing music as data like MP3 or MIDI files and loading it into memory.

Hardware backwards compatibility on the PS3 relies on the presence of the PS2 Graphics Synthesizer and Emotion Engine chips. The EE was emulated in software in later models, but the GS emulation is much more difficult. When the GS chips were dropped from all subsequent PS3s, PS2 BC went with it. The earliest PS3s basically had PS2s built into the case; playing PS2 titles required a restart that switched to the PS2 side of the hardware.

The Xbox 360 does not have a Blu-ray drive. There were rumours that the next generation Xbox would have a Blu-ray drive, but I avoid dwelling in rumours.

What PS3 music are you talking about? Background music across all games? The PS3 doesn't have enough memory budget left over because it wasn't designed from the beginning to have background music in the XMB. It's included on a game-by-game basis.

You can play music in the background on the Xbox 360. Old vs. new doesn't make a difference.
