Bought the Vita early release bundle and absolutely love the system so far. I've played through Uncharted and am currently playing WipeOut, UMvC3, and Little Deviants. I'm most excited to see how the system handles CoD and whether it has online competitive multiplayer. I typically play my FPS's on my Xbox 360, where someones system serves as the online server (dedicated services not required).
My question is, will all multiplayer FPS's require dedicated servers or can the system act as it's own server? I guess the question applies to all multiplayer games...
Thanks!

Bump? I'm really curious if anyone has insight about this.

From what I can tell, all the online multiplayer is done via game rooms hosted by a player.
For example, if you choose to play dungeon hunter online you can join a room from a list, or click host game. Up to 4 players in that game.
Unit 13 works the same way pretty much. You get a list of rooms to join and hop into one.
I have every bit of confidence that PS Vita will have competetive FPS games considering how well Unit 13 works in terms of control. They could easily add a versus mode update if they really wanted to. Would be better than the campaign anyway. The AI in unit 13 sucks. I'd rather fight other players.

I'm sure the Vita is capable of handling online FPS matches. It seems to have the specs to be able to do it so I can't see why we wouldn't have games running it down the line

I think Vita can survive FPS online play with Wifi, but I think 3G is too inheritantly unstable for it. Not a Vita issue, but enough of us have iPhones and know that single can very from 1 to 4 bars without moving.
I think that we are not going to get player rooms like Starhawk, or 256 player rooms like mag. 16 or 8 player maxes I think will be fairly standard, and more co-op (2 or 4 player) will become more common than vs FPS online games.

The Vita can definitley handle it. I played a lot of Socom FTB2 on the PSP and it was fine. I know it's a 3rd person shooter but it's a similar experience.

I definitely want a new Socom title. A hardcore online multiplayer shooter. I don't want 3-4 different ones with blah blah stories. I want them to make a crazy awesome single Vita title that lives up to the originals.

Still two months away from Resistance.
