You can, but your new PS3 will only want to format that drive when you insert it. If you want to retrieve that data you need to keep that drive in your original PS3 and backup the data or do a PS3 to PS3 data transfer...
Thanks a lot for 'the heads up'. That 'sort of' clears up, why sony didn't put the hard drive from my first CECHA001 'Launch Model' PS3 into the 'refurbished' CECHA001 PS3 they sent me when my 'Launch Model' PS3 'finally' gave out after almost 5 YEARS of faithful service. (Heartfelt sob! Uncontrolled weeping....) Well, Now I guess I'll have to replay all TWENTY EIGHT of my PS3 games from the very beginning. **bleep**! That means I'll have to buy four more controllers!
P. S. Please excuse any mistakes in grammar & punctuation.
if i do this will do i have to replace the hdd into each its pocket? or can i just easily bring that out put in the other one ?Quote
You can't just put a HDD from one PS3 into another PS3 and use the content that is on it. The PS3 will format the HDD you put into it.
If you don't care about what's on it, sure, you can swap them. Depends on the HDD tray, I'm not positive if they are all the same between different models. At any rate, it's easy enough with a philips head screwdriver to change the HDD out.
Can't you just take your saved games, buy a 8 or 16GB flash drive, and copy the save data to the flash drive, then plug it in there so when you have to play them you can just plug it into the PS3's USB port? I tried to copy the save data to my PS3 when I had to make another user, it wouldn't copy. So I'm guessing that you can't just plug and put back on... you have to do something And I lost my flash drive so all my Skyrim progress = gone.
Unfortunately only that ps3 can access the data on the hard drive as the internal hard drive is locked to the ps3 it was used in.. Meaning since the ps3 no longer works , all dataon the hard drive is lost
Oh and the ps3 only supports external hard drives that was formatted in fat32 so it won't be possible to hook up the drive externally to get the data out
