Can I rip out an external HDD and use the HDD inside?

12 replies 171 views Edited Dec 25, 2013

Im thinking of getting the p3 2TB 2.5" external HDD and ripping it apart. I dont care about the case. They can glue it close or whatever, I just want to open it and get the HDD out and use it in my ps4, cause right now, its not sold as is. Anyone have open an external HDD and try using the HDD inside? Is this do-able? I have never taken a external HDD apart, so i dont know whats inside.

If I was rich, I'd do it. But im not.  I work hard for my money, dont want to order one, rip it apart and find out it doesnt work and end up with a useless broken drive.

Since there is not a 2TB internal drive on he market yet that fits the PS4, it is highly unlikely that the one inside there would fit either.

The spinpoint m9t 2tb will be out soon enough.

the hdd inside the p3 is the spinpoint m9t. I know there will be one for internal, but they dont even have a release date for it. So probably gonna be in a few months, maybe even a year. I like to upgrade now rather than later and aviod having to re-download my huge 30-50 Gige per game again.

Yea I know. I already have a 1.5TB on my ps3, Im down to about 600GB left. Ps3 games are about 8-15GB on average. Ps4 are 30-50GB. So gonna need all the space I can get.

Maybe I am being obtuse.

Portable drives contain regular laptop internal drives.

No 2TB internal drive is currently available, OEM or otherwise that fits in the PS4.

Therefore the likelyhood you finding a 2TB 2.5" drive that fits in a PS4 inside a portable hard drive is as close to zero as you could possibly get.

I would go ahead and say zero but miracles do happen.

Not going to fit.

The HDD needs to be 9.5mm/0.37" tall
