I thought new PS3s came with PS+ vouchers in them? I would check your box to make sure you didn't miss any papers.
However, if you are a person who buys a lot of digitial game content, then Plus is definitely worth it.
I've saved over $100 USD from my subscription in discounts. However, I am typically buying at least one thing with every store update to play.

Not all new PS3 systems come with vouchers JonJon, but some do.
