Why can't people go for simplicity... Get a Linksys and your problems are solved.

I use a Linksys wireless router.

Some people will tell you that Linksys sucks and go with DLink, or vise versa.

I honestly just bought what was on sale and worked for me.

actually linksys has nothing but problems with the ps3 disconnections and a lot of network errors if you search the forum for linksys i garentee you will come up with nothing but complaint threads so stay away from linksys with ps3

Ok, to be more precise, don't be buying that junk that linksys call "Gaming Router".. buy yourself a standard wireless-N router (WRT300N works perfectly) and set it up. Update it to the latest firmware and that's about it... you could either DMZ the PS3's MAC address or open up about 4 ports it needs... whichever works best for you.

quick question; if you buy a wireless router and have wired internet connection in your house, will the wireless router be rendered useless unless you get a wireless connection in your house?

No. The wireless router will let you change your wired to wireless. LOL

The router will still be a router whether you are using it wired or wirelessly... It will work as a wired router for as long as you have cables attached to the back of it... what exactly do you mean by "rendered useless"?

I think that he may think you need the cable company to come and set up "wireless" in your house, and that you can't use the router until they set up this "wireless" network.  He's got it all backwards.  The wireless router is what makes you wireless!  Just plug the ethernet cord from the modem in the back of the router, install the software, and you're all set.  Just make sure you put a password on it, so people like me don't steal your internet connection for free (I know,I know, its bad, but I'm a broke college kid, what can I say?)
