So basically block out half of PSN? Many PSN users refuse to add a credit or debit card after that "Incident" back in 2011.
Besides, many don't even have a credit card. I am 19 and don't have one. An easier way to do this is to bring over the PSPlus requirement for Online play. Yes, I understand kids can get plus, but not as many as you would think because it costs $50 a year. If they forced PS3 and Vita users to have plus just like PS4 to play online, this could easily wipe out many of the kids. I undertand what you are talking about. I too am sick of the little kids screaming and crying on online games. Especially GTA V. I blew up some little kids car and he literally started screaming and crying yelling and a bunch of people started to kick him and he got kicked. Its annoying and yes, I wish there was a way to control it. I am sick of it as well.
Doing that offends people, it doesn't get rid of kids. If it did, Xbox Live wouldn't have kids. Add in that kids may talk their parents into getting PS+ because of the premium membership games and you see the potential for it to backfire. In otherwords, Sony risks their old customers who refuse to buy a PS4 because they hated the online paywall and don't care much about the random deals and promos. Also, there's a reason I use a USB keyboard in online games over a microphone. I tend to leave voice chat off.
The only way they could do this is if they installed a thumb print ID system. Obviously a thumb print would reveal your indenity and age.Sure there will always be a parent or someone who would thumb print for them but it would sure cut back on the idiocy we all see.
"For god ,your soul ... For me, your flesh...""
Funny thought, I wonder if PS4 owners will be able to adjust their usernames and if they can use Playstation in their usernames. I'm thinking you could probably troll some kids with the username PlaystationPower and try to get them to say your username. I think doing that to the kids may get them to keep quiet or possible stop playing for a while.
Problem is, there's no feasibility to this.
How are you going to prove who is underage and who isn't?
Require a valid credit card on file. Not a debit card.
I am 55 years old, my main card is a debit card, I don't trust credit cards. I buy gift cards as other sources of funding online. If I can''t have my own money on a card to pay for it, I have no need of it.
Thanks Asuka424 for the Signature
The problem lies within the parents, not really the system.
Let me begin by saying you are stereotyping all kids as being the same; whining, rude, belligerent, antagonistic, vulgar, etc... I have played MMORPGs in the past with younger players (ranging from 10 to 18, which to someone of my age is young) and have met some very mature, excellent gamers who are under the age. These gamers would be banned under your suggestions. Is it right to punish all for the sins of the few?
The next point is my main point. Parents. I am a parent so I have a different view point than many. I have seen many parents who don't care what their children play. When you work 8+ hours in a day to support your family you just want some quiet time when you get home. Some parents toss a game system and games at their children to keep them quiet. Or at least engaged somewhere else, out of their hair, so they can enjoy their game, their dinner, their show, their internet time. This is a problem. It's bad parenting. Unfortunately it is not illegal to be a bad parent and it's hard to make someone follow the rules. Adding a credit card requirement to "age check" doesn't work, trust me. You're simply making it harder for legitimate players to play. You're also trying to punish everyone for the crimes of the minority.
My last point is this: Many adults aren't mature enough to play games online. I have heard many adults who cuss worse than the kids. I have seen adults throw tantrum fits because they lost. There are adult hackers who do all the things that the younger crowd does. Isn't it just as bad for the adults to do this? Or is only a problem when a kid does it rather than someone your age? Immature gamers are annoying regardless of age.
You can say and think what you want but it's going to happen sooner than you think. Laws will be passed requiring age verification. Like stated above anyone with a debit card or PSN card has access to everything on the PSN store which includes mature games and kids can buy them with no problem yet can't in stores. It will come to that or mature games will be pulled from online stores if they don't abide by the rules. I myelf could care less but it will happen.
There are laws requiring age checks for porn sites. Kids will lie about their age. I see these age check things for viewing "mature" game trailers. How in the world will an online site know you're telling the truth about your age? You're supposed to be 12 or 14 to have your own Facebook account. I set my daughter up with her own account years ago, by adding a few years to her birthdate.
Parents will be able to by pass these requirements and so will kids. Unless you propose the NSA, FBI, CIA, NFL, NRA and YoBubba waste time, money and effort to fully check every site and every person's IP, home address etc to make sure no one is lying, it's really not going to work well. Even then people will still do it.
