To all of you looking for repair profiles for your rework stations we wanted to let you know that spitfiremods.com has profiles for most stations readily available. The problem of PS3 gpu failure is rather common and will be quite large over the next few years as thermal compound drys out and the chips start exceeding normal operating temperature.
We wanted to start a little discussion here about keeping your PS3 alive. There are many methods to keep your Playstation 3 chugging along. The most common or easiest method is to replace the thermal compound. We have tested and repaired hundreds of consoles and the drying out and break down of the factory thermal compound seems to be the largest problem when talking about YLOD.
New compound can keep your unit cooler - thus reducing thermal fatigue which causes failure of the solder spheres under the GPU.
Anyone having any suggestions please share with the group here on Playstation network.
I have been recommending for several years to:
1. Change the thermal paste and thermal pads
2. Change the fan from a 15 blade to a 19 blade (if needed)
3. Change the power supply to the APS-226 (if needed) Models CECHA, CECHB, CECHE only
Of those three tips the first one is the most important.
