I'm going to wait till E3 to decide. Sony's plans or aspirations may look good on paper but until I see the reality behind it I'll decide whether or not to get one at launch. I've purchased all their previous consoles at launch, but with the PS3 the first year was rather slow and i should of held out for at least a year before buying one.
I just wanted to see what other people thought on this topic. Most 1st gen playstations have major issues as years go by. Examples:
Ps2 fat-stops reading blue discs and regular DVDs after a while, then leading to overall uselessness
Ps3 fat-stops reading blu rays due to poor laser. Also future models have bigger hard drives & are cheaper
Psp fat-screen dies
And another thing, the fat xbox 360 had major red ring issues, and even the first run of Wii's had some issues reading dual-layer wii discs. So does anybody else think its smart to wait for a PS4 slim?
Hold your horses.... I suggest you do things in a sequence: wait for the bloody PS4 first, then we shall entertain such questions!

I'll enjoy the years I'll have with my PS4 before it dies on me. I mean, yeah it could be a smart decision... but it's years.
by your ratioinale, you shouldn't be buying any console if all you look at is the bad....
I wish that I had the will power to wait for PS4 Slim. But sadly, I am sure that I will buy a PS4 at the earliest opportunity.
I have always waited to get the second or "slim" verison so whatever kinks can get worked out do get worked out. I may be interested in an earlier purchase this time around. Like someone said earlier I'm gonna make a decision after E3 of whenever they finally release what the final product will have going on.
I now have the money for the PS4 I have had my ps3 for a few years and I still plan on playing on it for maybe a year or two after that, If you have the money and want one I'd say go for it. Thats what I'm doing. Most of my friends are still sticking with the ps3 for another year at least. If you are that concerned about the quality of the system I'd wait then if thats best for you.
