Re: An issue with my PSP screen

Jun 25, 2010

I spoke to a guy at EB games and he confirmed that he's had issues with the 3000 models. Even the black ones so it's not an issue exclusive to silver models.

I'm now wondering if replacing the screen with an aftermarket one will fix it (or make it worse).

Also Sony are dodgy - they claim that they never heard of this issue (spoke to 2 different people) but I reckon it's a lie so they make you pay $145 for a new screen.

Nah, this isn't backlight bleeding which I've experienced before.

This is a strip half the size of the width of your fingernail that runs around the edge of the screen. Here the pixels are lighter (discoloured) compared to the rest of the screen.

It's as if water got there (but it's not water as others have reported).

Kind of like putting a screen protector on and not having the edges stick to the screen so the colors are different.

Oh, then the PSPgo still doesn't have this problem.

I've taken my PSP-2001 screen out about 4-5 times, with no degrade in screen quality. Replacement screen quality depends on the build quality. You can find a replacement screen on DealExtreme for about $25, but make sure it comes with a backlight.

I would tell you to get a PSP-2000 screen, but they don't have the same contacts.

I've got a PSP2000 handy but they also seem to have more ghosting than the 3000 screens. (At least they don't have this weird issue).

I might give DX a go but some other threads have said that it's not the screen that's at fault, but rather the casing possiblty pushing on the screen around the edges too much.

Try removing the faceplate screws. It'll void whatever warranty is still present (if any), but it's worth a see.

My PSP 2000 had this problem also before I got rid of it. None of my themes looked right, dark moments in movies plus games really brought it out, and it was really annoying since that's what I was looking at every moment.

So far nothing like that is on my Go and I hope it's permanently fixed it this time.

The interesting thing is that it never happened to my 2000. There was slight bleeding at the bottom middle of the screen, but nothing like this around all the edges. Like it's been dropped in water.

Ah well, I'll just have to put up with it and perhaps just take the thing apart to see if the screen has an issue without the case on top.

I'd be interested to hear your findings once you open it up. I might do the same if you're successful in fixing it.

has anyone actually found a solution for this problem? I know this is not light reflection from the faceplate, as I've tried with the faceplate off, exactly the same result persists.

Is it under the LCD?
