Re: All PS3s need full Backwards Compatibility

I do like the look of a nice new PS2 original, but mine is so dirty lol. The PS2 definitely looks better than the modern slim ps3s.

Re: All PS3s need full Backwards Compatibility

I'll put it to you this way, if I was going to pay $400-$600 for a PS3, I would want it to look like the fat models, very fancy with the chrome accents, to at least show that I am getting my money's worth. However at the $250 range, don't really care how the PS3 looks, IMO it is functional and presentable, and most important of all, much cheaper...

The original PS3 definitely looked the sexiest. It had the sleek chrome trim and piano black. A full row of USB ports. And the neat cover door with the media slots underneath. In comparison to the slim, the original looks best. The slim is way to similar to a PS2 slim, and just doesnt scream "expensive" like the original did.

According to an estimate, it costs Sony over $30 on the casing for the original PS3 model(s), that is far too much to spend on a system that now sells for $250...

Well the case (on the originals) was made of glossy and transparent plastic, with the indented lettering and the chrome accents, I think that is far more than a few bucks. Starting with the 40GB, Sony silkscreened the PLAYSTATION 3 logo instead of using the chrome lettering, and used cheaper plastic. You can chcek the estimated costs in this chart:

I still see no reason why not release a 'Limited Edition' PS3 Slim that includes the PS2 hardware as well as 2 more USB ports and maybe the media slots. They could easily sell it for $399
