Yup, I always loved that feature! Let's face it, PS3 bacakwards compatiblity is better than the PS2. Not having clutter is also really good. I hate clutter. One device is better than mulitple devices!
I'm not sure that I can see how there wouldn't be at least a little better picture with a PS3 since it has upscaling. It's the same reason I play DVDs on my PS3 instead of the old DVD player. I'm not familiar with the VGA mod, but stretching the picture across more pixels isn't upscaling and it doesn't do the smoothing.
Maybe it's not a huge difference, but the bigger the screen, the more it should be noticeable.
yea the ps3 does look a little better but with the vga mod there really is very little difference..now im sure on a 60 inch screen theres gonna be a pretty big difference but most people arent playing on these huge screens, and i guess most people just like having one machine to do it all but i love having all kinds of different machines hooked up..lol..i'll have to post a pic sometime but it may take 2 pics to get it all in..lol
I'm sure that the VGA mod would produce a better picture, but that option isn't widely available (or known) by most. For most PS2 owners they only had the following options: RF, Composite, S-Video, and Component...
PS3 advantages outweigh the PS2 advantages (talking about the 60gb version). All-in-one-system, very convenient. Upscaling AND smoothing option does make the game look either good or passable on an HDTV. No worrying when you can save on virtual memory cards. Wireless controller. And the ps3 is less of an eyesore than the ps2 imo
