A new PSP!!

7 replies 18 views Edited Aug 18, 2011

Hey guys!

Check out the new PSP coming out soon!!

Here's a bit of feedback from what we can tell in a few minutes:

  • It looks very solid now - wouldn't try to drop it but it feels robust!
  • It's now matte and (not shiny anymore!) - so that's pretty cool
  • The entire back opens and not just the UMD drive - the UMD drive and the battery together.
  • The memory stick slot is now on the top

Here are some photos in case you want to see it closer. I'm sure we'll have more soon!

I wish they didn't cut out the WiFi.

How about Brightness? Does the screen still has a brightness control? I don't see a brightness button on it.

I'm also guessing Video Out is also cut out. I don't see the Multiport at the bottom.

What does the battery look like? Is it a different shape than the PSP1000/PSP2000/PSP3000 batteries?

It looks gorgeous! Although I don't know how I feel about them cutting out wireless internet capabilities.

Still, a matte finish is fantastic. Glossy, dark consoles usually attract tons of fingerprints. I'm guessing due to the lack of Wifi, one will have to download their digital purchases via PC through MediaGo, but that doesn't seem like that much of a problem.

No wifi is one thing if it reduces costs but why did you have to go and ruin the start/select buttons for nothing.

How do you think they are ruined?  I don't see why they would be any harder to use here.

The matte is a nice touch and the loss of the WIFI isn't a huge a deal.  I'd be more concerned with the loss of a video out port if it didn't have one. (which is only thing I don't like about the VITA...that it doesn't have one).  As long as it still has the USB port for Media GO it should be fine.  Unless you play multiplayer PSP games.  Can't say I like the volume, start, and select buttons though.  According to Game Informer, that PSP is going to be Europe only for now.
