64, 128, 256GB Memory Cards, and LiveArea limits, the two biggest issues on the Vita.

I'm sorry, but in this day and age, even 32GB isn't hardly enough to store everything I want to do.  I understand that Sony wants you to buy multiple cards, but is there any chance a higher capacity than 32GB will be released?

On my PSP, 32GB was plenty, having 90% of my games on UMD, and every mini and PSone game on my system with room to spare.   I really do not want to have to swap memory cards let alone swapping games.

If you plan on using your Playstation Vita for game saves ONLY, then this is what the 4GB card is for. But let's face it, there will be people that want to revisit their PSP library, there will be people taking pictures, or putting their music on their vita to listen to with some games. For $16.99-20 bucks it's affordable, but it's the worst storage to price ratio, as expected.

If you plan on using your Playstation Vita for game saves ONLY, then you should be getting a 4GB card. But let's face it, there will be people that want to revisit their PSP library, there will be people taking pictures, or putting their music on their vita to listen to with some games. The 32GB card adresses a lot of those problems, and although it should be a bit more reasonably priced, it did not stop me from giving up my 4GB card in favor of a 32, let's face it bigger is better.

But, let's look at the size of the Vita games and media currently available.

They really need to release higher capacity cards, 32GB is plenty for a lot of downloaded content, but thank god for physical media so you can get more for your Memory Cards. However I am not a fan of wasting bandwith and having to delete/download constantly and I hate buying multiple cards to get around this, although I just may have to get 2-32GB cards, one for PSP downloads, one for Vita saved games and downloads that are PSN only.

Good luck downloading Uncharted on one 4GB game card, or BlazBlue, and the Tester videos, just watch them on your PS3 or get a 32GB card.

After playing with the PSVita for 11 months, I can clearly say that if you are using your Vita for physical content, and not digital content, your biggest detriment will be the amount of bubbles in LiveArea.

LiveArea Limits

Jan 3, 2013

Copied from http://community.us.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-Vita-Support/Where-can-I-send-an-email-to-adress-...

To those of you who have seen my previous major post, regarding 64, 128, 256GB memory cards, and livearea limits, thank you for over 11,000 views and 50 replies!   Tremendous support from Vita owners.   We now got Playstation Plus support with saves backed up, let's take this further!

Now, I want to adress my second major issue, that has creeped up as more categories of games are accepted, especially to Playstation Plus owners.

I am sure that Sony went into the Playstation Vita thinking, "Hey, nobody in their right minds are going to buy 85 games for the Vita, there is no reason we cannot put a limit to the amount of apps on Livearea"

Fast forward to August, when Playstation One support hit the Vita, on top of Mini's and PSP games, the greater problem is NOT memory card capacity, but being able to put all of your apps on one memory card, WITHOUT using all of the space.

Here are my current 100 bubbles(Line break on each window):

Friends, Party, Group Messaging, near, Maps, PS Store, Trophies, Content Manager, Remote Play, Settings

Photos, Music, Videos, Browser, PSM Dev, Facebook, YouTube, foursquare, Skype, Email

Persona 4 Golden, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter X Tekken, Uncharted Golden Abyss, LittleBigPlanet, Gravity Rush, Disgaea 3, Ragnarok Odyssey, Call of Duty Black Ops Declassified, Playstation All-Stars

Metal Gear Solid HD, Assassin's Creed III Liberation, Silent Hill Book of Memories, Dynasty Warriors Next, UMVC3, Lumines Electronic Symphony, Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus, Wipeout 2048, Blazblue Ex, Reality Fighters

Spy Hunter, Unit 13, MLB 12 The Show, Dungeon Hunter Alliance, Shinobido 2, Resistance Burning Skies, Little Deviants, Rayman Origins, Hot Shots Golf, ModNation Racers

Tales of Innocence R(Japan Import), Plants vs Zombies, New Little King's Story, Pinball Arcade, Treasures of Montezuma Blitz, Super Stardust Delta, Retro City Rampage, ZEN Pinball 2, Uncharted Fight For Fortune, Foosball 2012

Hustle Kings, Pure Chess, Motorstorm RC, Mutant Blobs Attack, Stardrone Extreme, Jet Set Radio, Lemmings, Eliminage Original, Unchained Blades, Ragnarok Tactics

Final Fantasy 1/2, Final Fantasy 3, Final Fantasy IV The Complete Edition, Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy IX, Final Fantasy Tactics, Dissidia Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger

Breath of Fire 4, Class of Heroes, Legend of Mana, Gladiator Begins, Cladun, Puzzle Quest, Smackdown vs Raw 2011, Call of Duty Roads to Victory, Activision Hits Remixed, Romance of the Three Kingdoms Wall of Fire

Missle Command, Sega Genesis Collection, Castlevania Symphony of The Night, Monopoly, Tetris, Jetpack Joyride, Treasure Park, Paint Park, Music Unlimited, Welcome Park

31 Physical Vita games

16 Digital PSVita Games

1 Playstation Mobile Game

15 System Apps you cannot remove or modify

9 Playstation System Apps you can modify

11 Playstation One Games(Due to LiveArea Limits)

12 PSP Games(Due to LiveArea Limits, gotta pick and choose)

2 Mini's(Drastically have to pick and choose)

622 Songs in my Music Player

2 Movies totaling 170MB

500 Photos and short videos

2514MB remaining

There are a half dozen games from other systems that take up about 1/4 of the memory card capacity, that is not the problem anymore.

I own 2 Playstation Vita's, a First Edition 3G Bundle, and the Assassin's Creed White Vita, all of this is on my 32GB card.

Because of LiveArea limits, I am wasting space on my memory card, unless I add videos or music to my card to fill it up.   But what about when Killzone Mercenary, Soul Sacrifice, Warrior's Lair, or other quality physical games come out?   I will GAIN space because I will be deleting larger files for said physical games specifically for the Vita.

There are three solutions to fix the LiveArea Limits

*   A setting in Systems, to display Games in Music Player or XMB format, this would fix all issues with LiveArea limits at the expense of one application slot

*   Adding Folders into the LiveArea(You need a memory card anyways, make it happen for an optional install)

*   Increasing the LiveArea limit to something very difficult to obtain, 500(50 windows)

-----------------------------

Now that I have your attention, issue 2, Memory Card swapping.

Currently, the way LiveArea handles memory card swapping:

System files, and physical games that are in the exact same spot on different memory cards, will retain their location

Every other application will be randomly placed on the memory card, eliminating any organizing you may of done.

Every other game will be randomly placed on the memory card, eliminating any organizing you may of done.

A firmware update would easily fix this, as it turns off people from purchasing multiple memory cards, generating Sony a nice chunk of profit since memory cards cost $2 to manufacture, and it would be much easier to keep memory cards for different items, especially since music play is not supported during anything but 90% of Vita games

For example, I would purchase 3 additional, 32GB cards if the livearea and memory card limits are fixed.   I would specifically put PSP games on one card, Mini's and PSOne games on another card.   Then I could put my Vita games and music on a card by itself, and use my Playstation Plus digital copies instead of physical, that way if I have a friend using my other Vita, we will be able to play the same game.   The fourth memory card would be used for other people in order to play games online from my second vita.

So, Sony could make an additional $300 off me by adressing the memory card and LiveArea limits.

Re: 64, 128, 256GB Memory Cards, and LiveArea limits, the two biggest issues on the Vita.

The physical size of the Vita memory card will likely limit the capacity to 64GB, maybe 128GB, at least with current technologies.  There are only so many microcircuits you can put on a chip half the size of a fingernail.

I don't know about everyone else, but I certainly don't need to take my entire game collection with me where ever I go.  At least not on my Vita.  I carry a small laptop (a macbook air) on which I have the Content Manager Assistant installed.  Currently, though, everything for the Vita I own does, in fact, fit on my 32GB card.  Once it's full, it will only take a few minutes to backup what I no longer play to my Mac to clear some space on my memory card for new games.

QFT.

I agree about increasing the number of bubbles, pages and/or implementing folders, but as for the memory cards, there is no need to have all your games installed at once.

Now here's where common sense comes in.

Nobody is that much of a content hoarder.

And see as far technology is right now, do you really expect a Micro chip that can hold more then 64GB?

Just buy another memory card. That's why memory cards are able to be removed or replaced.

Or better yet, just back up your crap.

Last but not least, Who downloads trailers from the Playstation Store?

After all the trouble of posting a Youtube app too.

Yeah, because I really want to pay a thousand bucks for a 256gb memory card. Are you out of your mind?

This person wants to carry every game that exists on the PSN on his vita.
Because he thinks he will play all of them even semi annually.
Yes I would believe he is totally crazy. Because clearly everyone plays old games all the time.
And new games never come out to take up your time.

Point is, he's just asking for something that just isn't feasible.
