In short, no.  What's affected by the 3G Vita is where you can use some of the features.  PlayStation Near, among some other features, would be able to be used virtually anywhere on the 3G Vita, whereas they would only be able to be used in Wi-Fi hotspots with the Wi-Fi Vita.  Wether you get the Wi-Fi or 3G version is really up to preference.  There won't be exclusive features offered only on the 3G version.

Except the GPS according to the press release (yet to be confirmed).

I'm going to skip the 3g version. free hot spots are all around these days. For those that want 3g on the Vita, AT&T has a 25 dollar a month data plan that caps at 2GB. it should be ok for online gaming... I think. I'm going to just go for the wifi model personally, as I can't rationalize the extra expense for a small increase in connectivity. If you don't have a lot of public wifi in your area though, might be worth a look. Its nice to have it as an option though. Maybe if I had more money to burn.

:^/ I like the idea of 3G, but not AT&T's GSM version.  I'd prefer a CDMA carrier, such as Verizon, et. al.

Yes but can you play games online (on the network) with 3g? or just Near, Store, and so on.

also why i'm at it can the WiFi be powered from any cell phone hotspot? what phones? some might have enough bandwidth

3G rules over Wifi, u have to be close to get wifi but 3G u don't have to be. AT&T is some what good but sony should have got Verizon i am going with them over AT&T but my mom force me to AT&T so i guess AT&T will have 4G up soon and i hope that the PS VITA will work with 4G too.

For me I will be just getting the wifi only version since I can just get even faster online speeds by getting a 4G hotspot from any cellphone carrier and PSVitas faster wireless N connection. When you do this then you get faster online speeds then 3G itself on a PSVita. Short answer is Wifi only PSVita+4G hotspot=faster online, or else thats what I think. Your are free to correct me with I actually got this wrong?
