20gb PS3 and wifi.....does work!

25 replies 6301 views Edited Dec 26, 2006
Well Ive seen too many posts where people say that the 20gb PS3 does not work with WIFI....

For those that want WIFI on their 20GB PS3, here's a solution..  ( I'm sure there are others also)

1) Your internet connection needs to be WIFI.  Can you connect to the internet via a laptop with WIFI...
if you can then you are WIFI connected...

If not, then you will need to add a WIFI hub to your cable modem....

Ok, that takes care of the internet side...

Now to the 20GB PS3...

As an example that I know works fine...
2) go out and purchase the Linksys Wirless G game adaptor, model number WGA54G

when you get it home, plug it into your desktop computer, or laptop will work...  and follow the directions
to get the WIFI connected to the WGA...  you do this on a different computer than the PS3 because the
PS3 can't use the setup disk that comes withthe WGA...

After you get the WGA setup and your happy that it connects to the internet and all, just unplug it and now
plug the WGA into the 20GB PS3....

Now just go and setup your online account via the PS3...

Works like a charm....

The thing to remember is that your house internet connection has to has wifi available for the PS3 to work...
this applies to the 20gb and the 60gb......

once you get the WGA configured for your wifi setup in the house the PS3 will work, the PS3 doesn't know the
difference between a hardwired setup or a wifi becuase the WGA is doing that for the PS3.....

Also of note on the 20GB....   the Sandisk memory card readers work fine, my blutooth headsets are working fine,
the IPOD works fine and keyboard/mouse work fine...

About the only thing that you can't add to a 20GB PS3 vs the 60GB PS3 is the chrome strip on the 60GB version....

Hope this helps those with the 20GB versions....

This is pretty much what I'm doing except I'm using 3rd part firmware with the same router and running in client mode.

As for PSP connectivity... I might be concerned, if I had a PSP.. and I don't. And I never will.
I don't care when you got your PS3, how many hours you spent in line for it, or what games you have... even a little.

Sorry.. no shoddily-maintained gamercard here either.

Why pay $100 for the adapter when you can just pay that for a 60gb extra...But lets say you do cause you had gotten the 20gb and not the 60gb you better off bringing it back to the store and buying the 60gb you dont think so you can return anything with in 30days.
