20 GB/Linksys game adapter info

13 replies 8 views Edited Nov 23, 2006
Picked up a 20gb today at Best Buy and the Linksys game adapter, and this setup works great. Just downloaded F1 and Motorstorm demo in approx 30 mins total. I connected to my Netgear router with no issues...I dont broadcast ssid and use wep encryption and the adapter worked perfectly. Its about 20ft away in another room...no need to change any settings in the ps3. Highly recommend this if you dont care about having the 60gb, this cost less too.

No this one only does wep...its the wga54ag. I'm sure you could get one that does wpa or change your router to wep 128 encrypt. Wasn't too worried about it since I dont broadcast my ssid anyways.

20 GB ps3's do not have the remote psp option.  I understand u need a wi fi network because thats how the psp connects, but u should be able to connect to the ps3 if its online.  Anywho, i was wondering if the option is there now that your connected wi fi ?  And in your internet settings section do your settings still read wired connection?

Its still a "wired" connection. This is because the adapter he bought connects via ethernet cable and then transmit the signal from the computer router to that adapter.

Its not a wireless adapter that connects via USB.

The game adapter was $80...so I'm connected wireless for less than the 60gb. I wont be filling up the 20gb drive anytime soon let alone 60gb, and space can be added if needed. The psp connectivity feature wasn't a big deal to me either.

I have just seen some posts where people are refusing to buy 20gb and waiting for 60's because of the wifi. If their needs are like mine and they have a wireless network, dont wait and just get the 20gb...

Not true. I'm using the same gaming adapter with wpa and it's working fine. It says that it only does wep but I can promise everyone here that it works with wpa also. The linksy's tech support guy even thought that it doesn't work with wpa, but when you set it up there is clearly an option to switch to wpa.
